What is NFC in Jio phone and how to use

NFC in Jio phone is used to share payment information via wireless medium at merchant site or shop to make a successful purchase without even a need to take out your debit or credit card or pay by cash. NFC (Near Field Communication) helps us share identity such as account identity or share data to nearby device. You don't need to make a contact to any POS system in order to pay the service or purchase the products.

Steps:

When you are about to pay the bill at a cash counter in a super market or at your favorite restaurant you need to take out your Jio phone out of your pocket, place it near the NFC payment receiver and confirm the payment from the phone inbuilt app.

Initial Setup:

To do this, you need to setup Jio money account and configure the same on your Jio phone. This step is an one time process. The payment will be done from the money you have it in Jio money wallet. There may be some other payment services to be added in this NFC payment option to ease make the transaction safer and efficient.

NFC Payment:

NFC is currently available on most of the Samsung smartphones with the service named as Samsung Pay. With Jio phone introduced with NFC payment feature enabled at the hardware level, we could able to see people are now started using this way of payment in Cities and in tier 2 and 3 towns. Thus it helps us move towards digital India campaign initiated by the government.

For this to happen at a larger scale, Jio is trying it’s hard to make the changes in POC system to be fully upgraded to NFC enabled systems. Now let's see the advantages and downside of NFC.

NFC advantages:

Shopping experience has been made easier with the help of wireless payment technology such as NFC. NFC payments are safer, secured by PIN or finger print. Since Jio phone doesn't have a finger print sensor you need to setup the security using a PIN. A PIN could be 4~8 digit number. This PIN will be asked for every time whenever a payment is about to be initiated using NFC.

NFC downside:

This payment option is tied to a wallet system. If you do not have enough money loaded to the wallet then transaction would get fail. You need to maintain minimum wallet fund to enjoy unlimited shopping. Unless QR code technology you need to manually enter the payment details to make the transaction happen. Incomplete payment details may end up with messes and frustration chasing up with your banking/wallet partner.
